Harvey Lee Hinson is a Virginia-based painter whose work reflects the beauty of the land, rivers, and heritage that shaped his life. Working in oil, acrylic, and watercolor, he draws inspiration from memory, photographs, and the rich traditions of his Northern Neck roots. His paintings often evolve beyond their original vision, inviting viewers to discover new and unexpected elements within each piece.

Artistic Practice & Community
Harvey works in oil, acrylic, and watercolor, capturing both the beauty of Virginia’s vistas and the spirit of his ancestral story. He is an active member of the James River Art League, Virginia Plein Air Painters, Rappahannock Art League, Tuckahoe Artists Association, and Crossroads Art Center, where he shares his knowledge through demonstrations and workshops.

& Memory
Drawing inspiration from his travels across the country and his deep connection to the Rappahannock River, Virginia’s landscapes, farms, and wildlife, Harvey creates works rooted in place and memory. He often begins with sketches or photographs, but allows each painting to evolve organically, letting the final composition take on a life of its own.
